"180 King St."

5" x 6"
Oil on panel

This painting was very satisfying. The colors came together easily. It seemed like the paint just tumbled right off of the brush onto the painting. Doesn't happen like that very often...wish it did!

This little house, once again, sits only a block from my house. My wife, daughter and I were on a walk the other day just as the golden hour was fading. And this little setting was cast with just the right light to make the house glow. I also like how the shrubbery frames in the house a bit.

"Bake Shop"

If you're from Winona or the surrounding area you know about Bloedow's. This is the best little bake shop around. It's been a Winona institution since 1924. It's so popular that if you don't get up before the sun is up on Saturdays you probably won't get the donut you want. And if you get there mid-morning you just might not get any at all!

"House I"

5" x 5"
Oil on panel
Winona, MN

I love all the shadows the eaves and dormers and peaks cast all over this house. Great moment just as the light was fading from the day.

Bub's is a local bar and grill. Great burgers and atmosphere. And for all of you not from Winona I will be amiss if I didn't mention that Bub's is actually pronounced Boobs. There that should make anyone from Winona happy that I pointed that out :)

"Up and Away"

5" x 5"
Oil painting on hardboard panel

I really focused on injecting a bit more color into this little painting. I've been painting really shadowy brick buildings lately and they are mostly brown/black with grey skies. This one is more uplifting and cheery. Kinda like the weather outside this week! Come on spring!

This is an old advertisement painted along the side of a brick building in downtown Winona. I'd imagine it was slightly more vibrant back in the day. A nice little bit of history though.

I love how the tone of this painting turned out. It's a little moody.  This is the third building I've painted of the four corner buildings on the corner of Franklin and 3rd street here in Winona. The "No Name" title comes from one of its residents ~ "Ed's 'No Name' Bar"

I went a little larger than I usually paint. I'm trying to stretch myself a bit...trying not to get stuck in a rut of doing the same thing with every painting.

I love this old building. It sits a stones throw from the Mississippi river in downtown Winona. It's the old Peerless Chain building. The company is still in Winona, but I'm unsure if they use this building anymore. Great shadows cast from an adjacent building at sunset.

I've been able to carve out more time to paint lately and it's been really rewarding. It's my goal to paint every day for as long as I can. It's something I know has been done so much by folks, but I really see the value in the dedication to painting every day.

This little painting is of a hundred year old brick storefront just down the street from my house. I love the time of day when the sun is low enough to allow other buildings to cast long shadows onto other buildings. It creates excellent little studies to paint.
