"Upholstering"

Buy this painting on Ebay
5" x 7"
Oil on panel

This is an old advertisement painted along the side of a brick building in downtown Winona. I'd imagine it was slightly more vibrant back in the day. A nice little bit of history though.

I love how the tone of this painting turned out. It's a little moody.  This is the third building I've painted of the four corner buildings on the corner of Franklin and 3rd street here in Winona. The "No Name" title comes from one of its residents ~ "Ed's 'No Name' Bar"

I went a little larger than I usually paint. I'm trying to stretch myself a bit...trying not to get stuck in a rut of doing the same thing with every painting.

"Sign of the Season"

7" x 12"
Oil on Hardboard
sold
Winona, MN

Wow. Over a month since my last painting. Must have been busy :) I hope to continue with some more painting in the near future. I want to be a little more diligent in my art.

This is a scene from downtown Winona. Snow on the ground. A sign that says "Keep Christ in Christmas" on one side and a feed the hungry type of sign on the other. A timely reminder of what's important!

A wintery street in downtown Winona.

I truly enjoyed painting this one. I let loose a bit and really applied the paint in a forceful way. It's thick in spots! It has a real painterly feel.

"Broadway(Sixth)"

7" x 8"
Oil on hardboard

Winona, Minnesota

A cold winters day in Winona. About a month ago we had over two feet of snow dump on us, but it's warmed up a few times since and rained so some of the snow is receding. The worst part being that all the snow is crusty and dirty. I love snow, but I like it to be fluffy and white!

This is one of the busier intersections in Winona. Just a few blocks from downtown. You may ask how there are so many trees so close to downtown. Well, it's because the entire length of the block on the right is occupied by the Alexander Bed & Breakfast and lawn - a historical mansion built in the 1800s.

I don't know if it's the case in other places, but in Winona we have both names and numbers for our street markers. So this street sign is for Broadway (Sixth) - the same street. Although most people in town just call it Broadway, whereas the streets on either side of broadway are always referred to as 5th and 7th.

"Crosswalk"

I imagine these two ladies are on their lunchbreak and are off to one of the many little restaurants in downtown Winona.

I really enjoyed this one. It's a little different than ones I've painted recently. It doesn't have a building taking up most of the frame. It's truly just a street scene. I hope you like it!

Downtown drive-thru in Winona. Sunny fall day. Reflections in the glass. Glady dragged me inside "Michael-Donald's" to get a milkshake. "A white one, daddy. Not a chocolate."

LaCrosse, Wisconsin

I ventured down and across the river about 30 miles from Winona for this painting. LaCrosse has a great downtown filled with many buildings just waiting to be painted. I can't wait to get my camera back there to scope out some new paintings.

"Bar at Sunset"

6" x 14 1/4"
Oil on hardboard
sold
Winona, Minnesota

A bar at sunset in downtown Winona. I came across this brilliantly deep yellow bar at the perfect time of sunset when the shadows from across the street were slicing across its length.

I'm not a car guy. Can anyone identify what make and model that car is? I couldn't venture a guess, but it looked nice.

A daytime repair truck in the alley behind the Winona National Bank in Winona. Downtown. When I was a kid my mom used to take us to this bank and we were able to go look at the stuffed african safari animals on the second floor. I don't remember if we actually banked there or if we just went to see the animals. All of the animals were hunted and brought back by the owner or someone in their family.

A house on the corner in Winona. This house is just around the block from where I live. I love painting trees: the light coming through the branches and leaves.

"Bill Angst Auto Service"

This little corner auto service in downtown Winona packs in a half dozen cars and trucks on its lot. It seems like it would only fit two comfortably. A nice orange and yelloy truck with the fall foliage in the background. Bluffs.

"Franklin & 3rd"

Franklin Ave. & 3rd St. Morning light on a downtown Winona, Minnesota street. This furniture storefront is about 5 blocks from my house. The morning sun hit it just right when Glady(my daughter) and I were on a walk the other day. Glady said, "You want to go on a walkd daddy? You can bring your camera!" I must be a little predictable.

Acoustic Cafe at nighttime. A great sandwhich and coffee place in downtown Winona. Great on a sunny day or when it gets darker outside.
